Keys to Success

IN MY OPINION;
WILLIAM REYNOLDS

KEYS TO SUCCESS.

These first two I have chosen to group together. Patience and Persistence;
Too many think, "This is taking too long, and I want it now." This individual my decide to quit, or give up, right before they were about to get the break, the audition, the part they had been longing for. So, they quit and it never happens. Followed by being persistent. Don't let a few failed attempts stop you, pick yourself up and give it another go. Athletes don't work out a couple of times and expect to be world champions. So they quit and then sit at home and watch the ones that didn't quit on TV.

Confidence: I think this one with preparation, and patience is  just like the athlete or the soldier etc. where everyone knows beyond a doubt that they have worked their fanny off to get where they are.
Be strong and have resilience. Be prepared and there is absolutely nothing will stop you from reaching your goals. So, those first two Patience and Persistence, set up this one Confidence.

An agent

IN MY OPINION:
WILLIAM REYNOLDS

BEING AN AGENT:

Georgia is now the second leading state for film production in the country behind LA (of course) and just a little ahead of NY. And, it's getting bigger all the time. Many professionals from those other two cities come here to enhance their market. Some move here but still have agents in their other state. In fact there are many of these qualified actors. Many are SAG/AFTRA (UNION), and are ready from Jump Street, right now, photos (good ones) resume, training and experience. They don't need anything. Some will sign with a SAG agency. Maybe even an exclusive contract. While others will try to get more than one agent. Still there are even more that are NON-UNION. Some already live here while others come from another state. After all Georgia is number two, for this industry. We are not just getting big WE ARE ALREADY BIG.

Our agency represents both Union and Non-Union talent, which personally, it think gives us an advantage. Agents, real agents, work on commissions from what the talent that they represent earn. So, some are ready, and prepared, while others, not so much. We try to prepare those that are chosen by seeing that they have proper training, something that looks good on your resume. Also super photos to show to potential clients. Way, way too many aspiring actors think ( I should say dream) they are ready without doing what everyone else does, or did. Plus throw in the little 'factoid" that that 98% of the agents (and I use the word loosely) give the other two
percent a bad name. Selling classes that are less than useful, etc.Telling you that you've 'got it'.etc. Giving out information that is totally false. An example might be telling a person from another country that they cannot use an {O-1) Visa and get a Union Contract, or, sometimes can't even work...period. That my friends is simply NOT TRUE. They can work, they can get a Union contract. They can work. In short, it helps to do your research.

Fashion VS Commercial Modeling

WILLIAM REYNOLDS;
IN MY OPINION;

FASHION MODELING VS COMMERCIAL MODELING ETC.

Modeling terms refers to the art of showing your talent and  work by your personality, or by physics, or by your style..The  art of modeling used in various industries to promote their business idea to their specific market.. Generally there are many types of modeling and they are performed around the world, like fashion modeling, commercial modeling.. Each type of these has its own method and strategy and way of working. There are lots of opportunities available for fashion modeling and commercial modeling. The person who performs these are generally known as models or artist. Each type of modeling works are categorized into 2 main categories, fashion and commercial.

In fashion modeling, clothes is the central of the art. A model who is performing on a catwalk for a fashion show is describing and/or showing the latest designers, design or latest fashion clothes.. Promotion of cosmetic products and costly jewelry items also comes under the fashion heading. A handsome male or young female model uses their facial expression and body to express different emotion to attract the attention of the public. And they are very height-weight specific.

Fashion models need to be very specific for their physical requirement. Fashion models are generally very costly in terms of money, the charges of such models are very high compared to other type of modeling. The popularity and glory of these models is also very high but as lots of new aspiring fashion models are coming in to the industries, competition level is very high. To keep their position on top, they have to sacrifice many things. Child models can also start their career as teen fashion model easily

Commercial models generally perform at a small trade show modeling or product promotion. They have to have direct contact with potential customers to explain the product which he or she is promoting. They are making a bridge between the company and customer. Product promotion, life style modeling, showroom modeling are the main type of modeling that comes under commercial modeling. They also appear in catalogs, magazines or newspapers. In commercial modeling, physical requirement is not specific. Persons with different height, weight, age and ethnicity are hired. They only have to perform like a real person for performing 'this' particular assignment. Self motivation and basic acting skills are enough for commercial models. Kids can also become top child models in commercial modeling. The packages levels of such models are not as high as fashion models. They are generally hired on contract basic. This type of modeling could and does include, products like beer, athletic equipment etc. Just about anything that's not fashion. Even hand and foot models, but NOT just any hand or any foot. This also can get very specific as well, but can pay as much as a fashion print ads for a dept stores, billboards, etc.

Extras and their actions

IN MY OPINION:
WILLIAM REYNOLDS;

SO, WHAT DO EXTRAS TALK ABOUT WHEN>>>>

Here are some comments from those that actually KNOW>

When I direct a scene with extras, I usually do one of two things:
  • if audio does not matter, I have them talk about private stuff, because it helps them behave naturally
  • if audio matters and their chat could interfere with lines of the actors or other relevant acoustic events, I have them talk without making any sound at all. It is the same when you see a party with people dancing - there is no music playing back between "Action!" and "Cut!". We have the music on to give the extras a beat and a feeling for how to move their bodies, but as soon as the cameras start rolling, the music is switched off again.
  • You can sometimes observe the effect, that actors in a loud atmosphere talk and act just normal instead of speaking up (which would change their mimics dramatically); then you know (unfortunately) that neither the director, nor the actors, nor the continuity person are good at what they are doing … :-)
  • BUT THEN 'OF COURSE' YOU HAVE THOSE 'SO CALLED' 'NATURALS' { NOT!}

Favorite actor, who's yours?

WILLIAM REYNOLDS;
IN MY OPINION:

WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE ACTOR? ACTRESS?
MINE ARE>>>>>

ACTOR; DENZEL WASHINGTON>>>>PROBABLY A TON LIKE HIM.
Further, I just like the scripts, he selects (and he get's to pick)

Photo here

ACTRESS: ANGELINA JOLIE>>>>>>As far as just an actress goes I actually
like Jennifer Anniston the best. BUT, I like the films that Jolie chooses much better.
They are not all comedy based, but seem to have a little more substance.
So, who do you like

Hollywood Principle

Many people blindly follow their passion, believing their love for it will be enough to make them successful. But they fail to factor in what I call The Hollywood Principle.
The Hollywood Principle states that no matter how passionate you are about something, nobody cares about it simply because you do.
If you want clients or customers, you need to be concerned with why they should care about what you’re doing, even when you’re doing what you love.
People fleeing the corporate world — the world of 9-to-5, dictated eating and bathroom schedules — tend to equate a passion-based business with freedom. They want the freedom to be their own boss, the freedom to be in charge of their own time and the freedom to do whatever it is they love.
With this mindset, they throw caution to the wind and do what they love without regard for The Hollywood Principle. They pursue their venture with the love and compulsion characteristic of passions.
But it all goes horribly wrong because they forget to connect what they love to something others will care about.  They’re so engrossed in doing what they love and why it matters to them that they forget to look up and show others why they should care about it, too.
Don’t be fooled into thinking you have to contort your passion-based business into something it isn’t to find potential clients and customers. You’re not out to find any market need and fill it. That’s the old way of doing business, and also how you’ll end back up with something that feels like a “job.”
The real challenge is to persuasively communicate the gift of your passion, your mission and your unique value.

Similarities, Athlete, Actor, Model

IN MY OPINION;WILLIAM REYNOLDS
BEING A PROFESSIONAL ATHLETE AND A ACTOR OR MODEL: SIMILAR??
This one is for all the guys who firmly believe that their entire lives would have been completely different—wealthier, happier, sexier—if only they had been given the rare and awesome ability to jump.  Talent and skill and motivation aren’t the same thing; the world is full of talented people who have never achieved anything.

 You know those people in school who always got good grades but were complete dunces in real life? Same principle here: If you train for a one-dimensional test, you’ll be a one-dimensional athlete. The truth is, the ability to jump straight up into the air one time in a completely controlled situation doesn’t indicate what you can do during a game. Can you do it with two guys in your face and another waiting to clock you when you come down? With the game on the line and lights in your eyes? Falling backwards? What about the second or third jump? That’s what I want to see. Game results, not test results. MJ and Kobe have scored more than 30,000 points in their careers; I’m not a stat guy but I’m pretty sure most of those points didn’t come from dunks.

Character Development

IN MY OPINION;
WILLIAM REYNOLDS

HERE WE GO AGAIN, CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT
FOR AN ACTOR.....'THE CHARACTER'  SO FRIGGIN IMPORTANT...

Lately I've really been 'hung up' on actors not having a clue about what character development. So, exactly what does development mean. JUST THAT, develop, create make something out of nothing. Characters are real people. They have a>>>Look>>>A personality>>>Emotions>>>And, perhaps the most importantly, A MOTIVATION;
Great or just plain old good character development is the key to engaging your audience and creating a great film. Actors use several well-known acting techniques to develop their characters and deliver their material, one of which is method acting,  Method acting actually involves a series of approaches but its overall aim/goal is to develop life like performances by encouraging the actor to replicate the emotional experience of the character through his or her own emotions. Example might be "I need to be sad, very sad".  Then perhaps reflect on something that happened in your own personal life that caused or created that same kind of emotion. Many times it becomes easy, at least if you are able to focus. In essence, in method acting, the actor is asked to internalize the emotional life and thought processes of the character. The actor is expected to literally feel the same emotional impulses as the character would in circumstances described in the script. Of course there are other approaches that may work better for you, but lack of time and space. We are going to stop with that first one which has always worked for me.
And lastly, at least for now. WHAT IS THE ACTORS (THE CHARACTERS) MOTIVATION. Why is he/she doing what they were doing in the first place. Everyone on the face of the Earth does this everyday a hundred times. THINK ABOUT THAT.

Your Day job vs ACTING

IN MY OPINION;
WILLIAM REYNOLDS

SO, WHAT WAS 'YOUR' JOB WHILE YOU WERE PURSUING ACTING:

Probably like a lot of you as far as working goes. I was in LA working in a service station "back when the attendant had to pump the gas."
I was also in Law School and doing extra work when I could find the time. Also living a a 'kind of"' motel/apartment with no air conditioning, but an attached screened in porch. Which is where i had a fold out bed. It was much cooler there at night. I was earning about a hundred bucks a week. But still doing whatever I could to earn money, because I was always broke and it seems always hungry,. Even though my uncle (whom I'm named after) was wealthy, he did not (DID NOT) bail me out. 'YOU'VE GOT TO EARN IT SON"  "I DID, AND YOU CAN DO IT TOO"

And I know you have also heard this
'its not the prize at the end of the rainbow that means so much, it's the struggle to get there".

Why be an Extra?

IN MY OPINION;
WILLIAM REYNOLDS

BEING AN 'EXTRA'..'YES OR NO??

This is for all of you guys that hear this.."DON'T PUT THAT EXTRA WORK ON YOUR RESUME'.
Further this usually comes from yet another extra, same place, same time, same job as you,,,
giving free advice.
HERE IS JUST A SMALL, SLICE OF ACTORS THAT STARTED THEIR CAREERS DOING NOT JUST
'ONE' BUT MANY EXTRA ROLES.
Bruce Willis-----an extra in more than 10 productions.
Channing Tatum-----about the same. First one 'cute boy in church'
Brad Pitt-----also about the same. First one "Party Goer"
Re'nee Zellweger-----a bunch. First one 'girl in the pickup truck'
Clint Eastwood------way more than 10 while still in his 20's
Sylvester Stallone-----First film, background actor in "BANANAS'.
Matt Damon------Several including Julia Roberts kick start "Mystic Pizza".
Ben Affleck-----with his buddy Matt in Field of Dreams
and lastly but certainly not least>>>>
Megan Fox------several extra roles including "girl in bikini in the waterfall"

That is just a very, very small sampling. But another thing all of these actors, along with 'all' of the others took hold
of their careers and went way beyond the pale, beyond what was asked of them. Including but not limited to studying
their chosen craft and then when any (ANY) opportunity came along they jumped at it.
You simply don't get to skip a few rungs on the ladder, you take them one at a time,,, and when you stop.
YOU STAY IN THE EXACT SAME PLACE, WITH THOSE THAT GAVE YOU THAT WONDERFUL, SAGE ADVICE.
'YOU DON'T EVEN WANT THAT ON YOUR RESUME'

Passion VS Talent

YOUR PASSION WILL GET YOU IN THE DOOR.
YOUR TALENT WILL KEEP YOU IN THE ROOM.
WR

IN MY OPINION:
WILLIAM REYNOLDS:

YOUR PASSION AND 'HOLLYWOOD"

But, it's my passion, ME>
It's not about 'YOU", or your passion. It IS about what you can give to those that actually matter (directors, casting directors etc.)
you must make them care about your passion, And don't confuse making them care with verbal conversation about your desires
to work as an actress or actor. You have to 'show' them in such a manner that they are willing to pay you to do the same thing
when it's all on the line.

Many people blindly follow their passion, believing their love for it will be enough to make them successful. But they fail to factor in what we call THE HOLLYWOOD PRINCIPLE;
This, Hollywood Principle states that no matter how passionate you are about something, nobody cares about it simply because you do. If you want those same directors to get on the same page with you, then, you need to be concerned with why they should care about what you’re doing, even when you’re doing what you love. People fleeing the corporate world the world of 9-to-5, dictated eating and bathroom schedules — tend to equate a passion-based business with freedom. They want the freedom to somehow be their own boss, , the freedom to be in charge of their own time and the freedom to do whatever it is they love. With this mindset, they throw caution to the wind and do what they love without regard for This Hollywood Principle. They pursue their venture with the love and compulsion characteristic of passions.
But it all goes horribly wrong because they forget to connect what they love to something others will care about. They’re so engrossed in doing what they love and why it matters to them that they forget to look up and show others ( remember, those director folks) why they should care about it, too. Don’t be fooled into thinking you have to somehow misshape your passion-based career into something it isn’t quite like find what you envisioned when you were at home dreaming. You’re not out to find any market, any role, any part,  and fill it. That’s the old way of doing business, maybe in the OLD HOLLYWOOD, and also how you’ll end back up with something that feels like a “job.”
The real challenge is to persuasively communicate the gift of your passion, your mission and your unique value.AND, BY THE WAY, IF, (AND THAT IS A BIG WORD) YOU REALLY DO HAVE THE PASSION, THEN YOU SHOULD ALSO KNOW THAT IT WILL NEED SOME POLISHING, SOME REFINEMENT.
GOT IT?

READ the Darn Script

WILLIAM REYNOLDS;
IN MY OPINION

READ THE DARN SCRIPT;

You know what amazes me perhaps the 'most', when new wannabe actors that ( I use this word loosely) come in looking for representation, looking for an agent?  We give them a script to look over for a reading when their time comes. So, I walk out into the lobby and a fairly large percentage of these wannabes are doing what? Texting, or trying to talk with others that may also be waiting. And now it's their turn, And guess what? They hardly have any idea of what they are reading for, the character, how they are going to read, or basically anything at all. And of course, their reading sucks. Real actors>>>serious wannabes>>>>those that realize what may be a stake are totally different.

They play it safe. They don't enjoy themselves. And they "act."
When you walk into a room for an audition, do it like you have nothing to lose. Like you're on death row and there's no chance for a pardon and it's your last opportunity to say what needs to get said. And don't give two craps what I think. Just assault my senses, my preconceptions, and any expectations I may have regarding the scene's progression. And please, for God's sake, don't show me the shiny surface. That's what the other 10 actors did before you. Show me what's underneath the hood. I want to see whats inside you. What you're made of, the camera etc. Can you follow directions...at all. Turn the scene upside down. Shake it loose and let's see what comes out. Show me the danger and the mystery, so that the moment that's not anticipated surprises both of us.
And that certainly does NOT mean GO BALLISTIC.

Why Film in Atlanta?

IN MY OPINION;
WILLIAM REYNOLDS

WHY IS ATLANTA SUCH A GOOD PLACE TO SHOOT A MOVIE;

Well there are a lot of reasons.
Right to work state,,,tax breaks,,,quality resources, such as (finally) good crews available, equipment, studio space, etc.
Quality actors with quality training available, and overall just a great city, not only to work in, shoot in but live as well.
Even though the State in a non-union right to work state, SAG/AFTRA is still very supportive and strong. Many professionals
are moving here, or at the minimum spending a lot of time here, splitting time between NY and LA.
The local politicians have taken notice to the importance the film industry plays in the local economy. I don't think that 'right now' an actor or beginning actor has to flee to LA to get their start. In fact quite the opposite. They can begin or continue their film career right here in the State of Georgia. If you get out much you have probably ran into or seen someone from the
movies. Or to a lesser extent had to take a detour on the way to work because the streets were blocked off while some Vampires or Zombies were given the right to pass.
Life in the big city, right?

Top Movies From ATLANTA

IN MY OPINION:
WILLIAM REYNOLDS;

WANT TO KNOW THE TOP FIVE MOVIES FILMED IN ATLANTA?

1. SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT (1977)
2. SLUGGERS WIFE (1985)
3. FOOTLOOSE (2011)
4. CATCHING FIRE (HUNGER GAMES) 2013
5. SELMA (2014)

I DON'T NECESSARILY AGREE WITH SOME OF THESE PICKS, BUT THIS IS THE 'PROFESSIONAL' CRITICS LIST.
ALTHOUGH I PLAYED BURT REYNOLDS DOUBLE SOME IN 'SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT", IT WOULD BE HARD TO
BEAT 'CATCHING FIRE'. DON'T YOU THINK.
DIFFERENT TIME;;;;DIFFERENT ERA.

YOU did not get the ROLE

IN MY OPINION:
WILLIAM REYNOLDS

ANOTHER REASON YOU 'DIDN'T GET THE ROLE"

Well actually, the number one reason is that you simply 'didn't fit' what the director had envisioned. And my friends that
is purely his/her choice and theirs alone.
But the next one is the one that we run into more than anything else on the planet.

Your skillset isn’t developed. This is the second most common, and the one people like to think of as “not good enough.” That way of thinking is a tad vague at best.. How do I know? Because year after year, I see actors grow and develop. I see actors go from maaaaybe having the skills to handle a small supporting role to being ready to carry a tv series. in one season. Either they took a class that unlocked something, or worked with a director who stretched them, or went on a spiritual quest in the New Mexico desert, or had mind-blowing experience with a, well, whatever. But I see it happen all the time, because dedicated actors are constantly working on their skillset. And they need to listen to someone that actually knows what they're talking about. Bear this in mind..DIRECTORS 'ARE' GOING TO FIND WHAT THEY ARE LOOKING FOR...PREPARE YOURSELF,,,DON'T LET THAT LIFE-CHANGING EVENT DRIVE RIGHT ON PAST YOU...YES 'YOU' THE ONE THAT IS ACTUALLY LOOKING.

Method Acting

IN MY OPINION:
WILLIAM REYNOLDS;

METHOD ACTING,,,THE REAL DEAL;

So how do the really great actors get prepared for their role, maybe just their next scene.
Just make it up> no not really.
I've told this story many times before:

Oh method acting. Once an esteemed technique that Hollywood’s biggest stars learned to make their performances dynamic and real, now it’s the phrase evoked every time an actor acts like a jackass in the name of his art.
Perhaps the most famous tale of “Method Acting” comes from the making of 1976’s Marathon Man. In the scene where renowned British thespian ( actor for those that don't know what a thespian is) Laurence Olivier was to torture up-and-coming leading man Dustin Hoffman, the latter’s character was supposed to be rattled from days without sleep. So, Hoffman decided to try to stay up for three to four days, jacking himself up on caffeine and a trip to Studio 54. When Olivier saw what a wreck Hoffman had made of himself in service to the role, the next day he’s said have replied with shade-throwing glory, “Have you ever tried acting, dear boy? It’s much easier.”;
Both academy award winning actors. Mr. Olivier considered one of the best of 'all time'.

Do you Want to Be an ACTOR?

IN MY OPINION;
WILLIAM REYNOLDS:

DO YOU REALLY (REALLY) WANT TO BE AN ACTOR?
YOU SHOULD PROBABLY READ THIS. IT MAY BE 'YOU'.

Yes! So why do it? What is the “right” reason to act? As far as I can see, there’s only one: because you can’t see yourself doing anything else. Again, cliched, but for a reason, it’s true. How to tell if your heart’s desire is really acting? Aside from the obvious, a willingness to do whatever you can for no other payoff than a chance to act, I think there’s a joy you find in acting, period. Actors who really love acting love other actors, love working with other actors, love watching other actors. My first hint that maybe many have gotten into this for (ahem) less than noble reasons were the pangs of envy. Perhaps watching others succeed where maybe you felt like you were failing, or outright jealousy over what they could do that you couldn’t seem to accomplish, no matter how hard you may have tried. Or, at least 'thought' you were giving it your all. Which is not to say there won’t be a touch of longing inside of you for love or fame or money, either your own or other people’s. But it’s just that—a touch. And you’re in touch with it, and truthful about it. You’re aware of the shifts in your thinking and feeling, no matter how small it may seem. In other words, if you’re really meant to be acting, you’re doing it already…

Tips for an Audition

IN MY OPINION:
WILLIAM REYNOLDS

A COUPLE OF 'TIPS' FOR YOUR NEXT AUDITION;

If it's not a cold reading, do a well- rehearsed monologue or script.  A casting director would much rather see something that's tonally slightly off the mark than something that matches perfectly but that you threw together earlier in the week. Under-rehearsed monologues always, always, always look bad. An under-rehearsed monologue has bland choices, blank spots where you're hunting for lines, unmotivated pauses-- pretty much everything you come to expect from things that are under-rehearsed. Showcase your talent at its best and do something you've had time to develop!
AND..No, you can't "use" the casting director. Don't look at her! Don't EVER look directly at the auditioners. It makes them uncomfortable and that's the last thing you want. An uncomfortable casting director stops thinking about you and your monologue and becomes fully absorbed in the fact that you're staring at her! Place your mark over the auditioners' heads, and face forward so everyone in the room can see you.
Make bold, interesting, but sane choices. New actors tend to make bland, boring choices in audition monologues, fearing that anything too bold will make them appear limited in type and range. Just the opposite is true! Make bold and interesting choices! Show off your chops! On the flip side, don't make bizarre choices. Lots of screaming, lots of unusual movement (unless you're auditioning specifically for a movement-oriented piece), and lots of unmotivated maniacal laughter are unwelcome. Anyone can scream or talk loudly, that doesn't mean doodly squat.

What are you thinking?

IN MY OPINION:
WILLIAM REYNOLDS

DO YOU 'REALLY' THINK?

Some people really think that they are 'naturals'.
Can you imagine a person going into, say PARAMOUNT STUDIOS in Los Angeles and telling someone, anyone that will
listen, "Yes I am a natural Film Director, I did a couple of stage plays in HS in Montana. So can you just go ahead and pay
for everything I will need to get going? You won't be sorry. My friends all tell me that I have what it takes">
Or better still a big guy, say 6'7" 300 lbs, that played a little Middle School Football walking into, the coach's office at Alabama and
ask for a full scholarship.
There are a hundred examples that I could give. Yet stuff like this happens in the film/tv/modeling industry just about everyday. A person
with very little or absolutely no background at all in the industry, thinks that because 'they want to do this', that an agency, any agency anywhere in the entire world is going to foot the bill for everything that they need, because they are cute, and talked to you for about 15 minutes. OH, MY GOODNESS, I HAVE TO ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING ON MY OWN, I DIDN'T KNOW THAT.
And then of course there are the 'real' people that actually have a grasp. The cream always comes to the top doesn't it?

STAR or working actor?

IN MY OPINION;
WILLIAM REYNOLDS

BECOMING A MOVIE STAR OR AT LEAST A WORKING ACTOR

Every actor dreams of becoming a star, but not every actor succeeds. Becoming a movie star requires hard work, dedication, and patience. It means starting at the bottom of the ladder and working your way to the top. To become a star, you will need plenty of talent and most of all, lots of luck. If you can manage to follow as many of the steps listed below as you can, you will hopefully be on your way to becoming a FULL TIME ACTOR..
  • Begin your acting career as soon as you can Taking acting lessons and gaining experience early on is very important. Try to get parts in all sorts of productions.
  • Learn as much as you can about acting and how to act. Study and practice. study and practice.
  • Get as much experience as you can. Any role, even minor ones, will help you get experience, as well as be seen and noticed. Yes even being an EXTRA
  • Network with the people you meet in the industry.
  • Audition for every role that comes your way, but be prepared for rejections. In the beginning you will be rejected more often than not. Don't despair. It takes a long time to be noticed.
  • Be prepared to work very hard. In order to realize your dream, you may be required to work very long hours for very little pay. But be reliable this goes a long way.
  • Live close to where the work is. Although this isn't a requirement, it can be quite helpful, as you'll always be nearby for auditions.
  • Get an agent. Agents have connections and know the people, like casting directors.
  • Persevere. Perseverance and commitment will hopefully help you land the acting job that will make you a full time actors. making a nice living and enjoying it.

Enjoy the Ride!

IN MY OPINION';
WILLIAM REYNOLDS

MAKE ACTING FUN, ENJOY THE RIDE.

It’s not like I can’t understand why so many of you out there are stressed out basket cases when it comes to acting. It’s challenging. But if you don’t operate from a place of fun, acting is going to feel like forcing a square peg into a round hole; it’s going to hurt and take chunks out of you.
Auditions are not tests that you need to ace. Looking at it that way makes your whole prep and rehearsal like cramming for a test, trying to find the “right” answers, trying to memorize them, and then praying you’ve prepared enough to deliver when it counts. Then, if you don’t book it, you feel as though you failed, didn’t work hard enough, or didn’t do it “right.” Where’s the fun in that?
And it’s likely that’s not even remotely true. Even if every actor came in and killed it, only one can book the job. There can be only one.
I’m a firm believer in that we do what we want to do. If auditioning and acting is a constant source of stress and anxiety, you’re not going to have as much motivation to do it. Eventually, you’ll stop giving it your all because your body doesn’t want to go through the stress of it all. It’ll fight you. And you will lose that battle. Loosen up, relax and enjoy the ride. Not many people get to do that in a thousand lifetimes.
