STUDY AND TRAIN

STUDY, TRAIN, STUDY, TRAIN.

Believe me, it's not just me saying this. You need training.

Kerry Washington...Scandal and Django Unchained says this:
The invaluable training and intensive study allowed me to pursue the craft on
a full-time basis. Not only did I find focus, I learned that professional
is what I wanted to do with me life.

WE LOVE BOOKING PEOPLE FOR JOBS.

We just booked three females for 'hand modeling', two young
and one a tad older. When our casting director called and left
messages for them to call, they began to return the calls.
I just happened to answer one of the calls. The older lady.
"I just got a message to call". I said "Yes, remember the hand
model you were submitted for"? "Yes"! "Well they picked you"
"Oh, my goodness, great". "It gets even better, the pay is $650
a day for three days".........Once again "Oh my goodness, wow"!
These are the times that you really enjoy what you do. To see
someone, that had just begun their career at a somewhat later
time in life get booked in a fairly short period of time.
It just never gets old does it?

LEARN FROM OTHER ACTORS.

No two actors are the same. Two actors could do the exact same scene
and each preform well and at the same time be totally different. One example
could easily be Robert Deniro and Al Pacino, two of the best actors, maybe
ever. Say the scene requires anger or extreme disappointment. You will rarely
see Deniro speak loudly or show a lot of physical movement to get his point
across. While Pacino, in my opinion does exactly the opposite. Many times
very loud with much body movement. Pick one they are both great, and they
are not going to change. Not now, not ever. Their methods have served them well.
I don't know if I've ever seen Deniro raise his voice. Not so with Pacino.
So the next time you watch a movie, get some pointers. There are some pretty
good reasons working actors are where they are.

HOW DOES ONE PREPARE FOR AN AUDITION;

This is exactly what perplexes most actors. The audition is actually
much different than actually doing the job. Many times you get very
little practice time, or even research time, at least quality research.
So, what do you do? Just wing it? Not really, spend some time on
'the actual scene. What is happening? Where do you fit it? Why do
you actually need to be there. "SOLVE THE SCENE". And then and
only then go in prepared. Remember there is no set way that a part
or lines has to be delivered. Have a few, two or three different scenarios
all set up, with each one being a little different that the other.

YOU STILL HAVE TIME TO AUDITION

YOU STILL HAVE TIME TO AUDITION

I was reading an article by a Los Angeles Casting Director the other day. It is amazing how many
directors and casting directors are on the same page.
He was saying you have the rest of your life to audition so spend some time learning your craft with
others in the same boat with you. It helps you solidify your desire and commitment to acting and
the skill involved thereof.
One other thing, and I've said this so many times before, and I see it almost everyday. People love giving
advice on a business that they know very little to nothing about, like other amateurs giving advice on training,
agencies, photographs, etc. when they probably know less than you about the process.
Do your own research and make up '''your own mind'''.

GUESS WHO THE #1 CELEBRITY IS THAT OTHERS DON'T LIKE TO WORK WITH?

GUESS WHO THE #1 CELEBRITY IS THAT OTHERS
DON'T LIKE TO WORK WITH?

#1. KANYE WEST....Standoffish, all into himself and rude to other celebrities. Not really a big surprise.

#20. JENNIFER ANNISTON....Rude and does not socialize with co-stars. This one is a surprise.

What do agents look for?

WHAT DO TALENT AGENTS LOOK FOR ON
AN ACTING RESUME??????????
Agents are there for YOU THE ACTOR. It is in the Agencies
best interest to preserve their existing clients and to garner
new ones, to select actors that can and will represent them
well. This is absolutely essential. So, the agent, by looking at
your resume and/or evaluating you in person can determine
if you are a good fit for the agency. This is true if you are
SAG/AFTRA or just taking your first few steps. If it 'is' your
first few steps and your interview/evaluation goes well enough
you will get advice on how to proceed, and maybe with a little
help from the agent. But please bear this in mind, it will take
more than your looks, desire and raw talent.
Raw talent is just that RAW.

AND he says...

DENZEL WASHINGTON SAYS THIS...

In every single one of his movies, so watch for it in his next flick.
"I can guarantee you that..."
"I guarantee you this....."
"I guarantee that will......"

It's not just Denzel many, many great actors embellish on their lines, but usually the same words or
themes over and over again.
But that's ok with the Director IF YOU ARE DENZEL.  If you're not,  it's best that you stick with what
was written.

TONS OF OPPORTUNITIES FOR FILM/TV

TONS OF OPPORTUNITIES FOR FILM/TV.

This week alone between our 'in house' castings and the ones sent to those we represent via email, we had over 300 jobs as principals, featured and background spread over several different film/tv. Most of these were in Georgia or the Southeast. Some were SAG/AFTRA and some were Non-Union. In house are those specific to one person, usually from a breakdown or directly from a casting director. The others are a wide variety of looks, ethnicities, genders and ages that are needed asap. This is an average week here.

DON'T MAKE THIS MISTAKE!

DON'T MAKE THIS MISTAKE!

So you have an audition and you feel very confident. DON'T make the big time
mistake that you are going to be the only one there OR that you are surely to
get the booking because you are so cute and talented. And just how do you know
that? Because your family and friends tell you so, that's why. I can promise you
that some of your competitors have 'great photos' and an extensive resume for
acting, lots of training -quality training- and not some 'modeling school'. Places
where you had to audition just to get in the class. And they've been working.
Some my be SAG/AFTRA or SAG eligible, but many are going to be good. Very,
very good.
Being self absorbed with 'yourself', that can and most of the time will, cost you jobs
and your career. Acting is not as simple as one my think, or else you would not
have Undergrads, Master's, even PhD's on the art and the craft.
Don't be foolish. Preparation cures a lot of ills.

Quote from Oscar winner Leonard DiCaprio

Quote from Oscar winner Leonard DiCaprio

The best thing about acting is that I get to lose myself in another character and actually get paid for it....It's a great outlet. I'm not really sure who I am - it seems I change every day.
