What is your pattern?

After reviewing our year 2015 and how things went. As usual a certain pattern developed among those new people trying to get a career started.

Most were rational and realistic others not so much.

Have you ever noticed how some folks simply cannot handle anything negative, other than their view of things.
If a student failed a subject, it was their teacher, or the whole school, but not a lack of effort on their part.
If their daughter was not voted most beautiful, the contest was rigged. It was a set-up. If they didn't get the promotion, it had to be something other than performance, because surely they were the most qualified.
It is exactly the same way in our business. We have a starting point for new talent. Someone that is not good enough at the time but shows a lot of promise and is serious about their acting or modeling career. The unfortunate fact is "EVERYONE DOES NOT QUALIFY', at least here they don't. Maybe some school, where the only qualification is you have a checkbook.. But if you are decent and serious we invest a lot of money in your career. Still there are those that get bitter, even mad. "I know I'm good, they just didn't see it, or they didn't like me'. I don't know what their problem is". And then they continue along that same old path.
I've said this before.

"IF YOU KEEP ON DOING WHAT YOU ALWAYS DID, YOU WILL ALWAYS GET WHAT YOU ALWAYS GOT"
Be objective and not subjective.

Procrastination?

Well it's almost Christmas and I thought I'd pass on a couple of facts.

"IF YOU AIM AT NOTHING, YOU'LL HIT IT EVERY SINGLE TIME'

'YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE GOOD TO START, BUT YOU HAVE TO START TO BE GOOD'

'ISN'T IT AMAZING HOW MUCH YOU GET DONE RIGHT BEFORE A HOLIDAY'

Merry Christmas to all or you guys and hopefully a very prosperous New Year.
Don't procrastinate, do the things that make you happy.

Actors need Training!

THERE ARE ACTORS OUT THERE THAT BELIEVE THEY HAVE THE SKILLS ALREADY TO BE AN ACTOR.
They argue that BRAD PITT, DREW BARRYMORE AND JIM CAREY never attended a proper training program, so why should they? What they don't realize is that those actors studied with a coach, took acting workshops etc. There are workshops out there that can help you create consistent performances. They can:
1. Help you build confidence. 2. Discover that you could actually be great. 3. Help you to take advice from those
that are already out there and are trying to help 'you'. 4. Teach you much more than just technique, and learn from others that are in the same workshop as you.

Quotes

These quotes are from two great actors, each winning an academy award for their work.
They worked together in AMERICAN GANGSTER.

Russell Crowe;
I respond to the moment, which is what makes you a good actor.

Denzel Washington:
Black or White, good parts are hard to come by. A good actor with a good opportuntity
has a shot. Without the opportunity it does not matter how good you are.

After the filming of the movie Russell Crowe said " Doing a movie with Denzel almost hacks you off.
Why, Because he is so darn good he makes you feel inadequate"..

Give it a Shot!

I have noted time and again that unearned wealth can have a corrosive effect on the soul.   People who inherit large sums of money, or win the lottery - or even collect welfare - are not happy people, for the simple reason they know they don't "deserve" the wealth they have and they realize they did nothing to earn it.

Many squander it in short order - which is why lottery winners, professional athletes, and wealthy movie stars usually end up in bankruptcy court, sometime during their lives.  When you don't "earn" money the hard way, it is a lot easier to let it slip through your fingers, even if you studied your fanny off and did everything correctly, a few million dollars for a few months work is off the charts.

Hollywood is probably the capital of unearned wealth.   If you become a famous movie star, your very name will attract customers to the box office.   Suddenly, you can command millions of dollars, just for appearing in a movie, which although is hard work, is hardly more than a few months time out of your life.  It literally makes no sense that someone should earn more in a few months than others do in their entire lifetimes.

And I think a lot of people in Hollywood feel this way, at least subconsciously.   Sure, they will say otherwise of course.  But deep down, they know that they really didn't deserve $5M for doing a sequel that was not very good the first time.

I feel it's better to have had it and lost it, than never to have had it at all, so give it a shot.

Ohhh

As I hurtled through space, one thought kept crossing my mind every part of this rocket was supplied by the lowest bidder.

John Glenn American astronaut.
Reminds me of cheap photos and cheap training.

Steve Martin says this.....soooo true.

Hollywood must be the only place on earth where you can be fired by a man wearing a Hawaiian shirt and a baseball cap.

This is Show Business

ACTORS???????

Most actors don't quit the business, the business quits them. The most common
complaint is that the profession is unfair. It's not! But, it is indifferent. It does not care.
It gives everything to some and nothing to others, and it's not going to explain why.
So quit complaining, nobody's listening.
QUIT?? WHAT??
ARE YOU KIDDING? NO WAY, THIS IS SHOW BUSINESS.

Stages of an Actor

THERE SEEMS TO BE STAGES THAT ACTORS GO THROUGH.

Stage 1.  I'm gonna be famous.
Stage 2.  I'm gonna study my craft, take acting seriously. I'm gonna be famous.
Stage 3.  I never really knew what it took to be an actor. It's a lot tougher than it looks. What it takes to be famous.
IN BETWEEN STAGES 3 AND 4 YOU MAY HAVE A CHANGE OF HEART.
Stage 4.  I think I'm beginning to experience something more than all about 'me'. I'm beginning to enjoy being part of a story.
Stage 5  I never really knew what taking a real risk felt like.
Stage 6. Wow! This is fun F**k being famous.
