ACTORS BREAKING CHARACTER WHEN SOMETHING GOES WRONG >

IN MY OPINION;
WILLIAM REYNOLDS;
  ACTORS BREAKING CHARACTER WHEN SOMETHING GOES WRONG >
Acting requires focus and concentration. Lose your focus and you can lose your place ,  lose your lines, and cause a silence hole big enough to drive a truck through. When experienced actors have these moments, they know it’s their job to get back on track. When beginning actors have these moments, the first thing that usually happens is they break out of character and say “sorry” to the audience or director,, This is a huge acting no-no.  How do we solve this?
Practice line exercises that purposefully try to throw you off your lines. Rehearse your lines out of sequence. Get in the habit of finding your way back on track, while staying in character. An audience will have no idea you’ve forgotten your lines until you break character and tell them. The way to get out of a sticky line situation is to stay in character and start talking. Never stand there in silence thinking someone else will solve your problem. Take it upon yourself. The more you practice this the easier it will become if something goes awry on stage.

Is it possible to get signed by a top talent agency?

IN MY OPINION:
WILLIAM REYNOLDS:

Is it possible to get signed by a top talent agency?

Other actors have been signed by top talent agencies in Los Angeles before, so it’s definitely possible.
One of my friends has recently inked a contract with CAA just because he had a one line part in this summer’s superhero blockbuster movie. But this scenario is not common.
Ultimately, it’s very difficult to get attention from a top talent agency in LA. They already have a huge roster of clients whom they need to attend to, and more hot talent continuously flocking to Hollywood.
Your chances of getting signed with a power agent in LA can increase if you do one of the following (ideally, all of these things with some luck on top):
  • Visibly keep working and expanding your body of work that is noticed in LA;
  • Focus on growing the scale and quality of your roles with featured parts;
  • Become a SAG-AFTRA member (gives you maybe a 0.01% boost);
  • Have a great manager with solid connections that will get you a meeting;
  • Get a referral from an actor who’s already represented by the agency;
  • Work on a commercially successful big production movie or TV show;
  • Win some awards that are recognizable in the industry;
  • Develop good relationship with well-known casting directors;
  • Grow your social media following and general fan base;
  • Have some talent.
I intentionally listed talent as the last one. If you can get any of the above accomplished, clearly it doesn’t matter as much. We all know many poor actors who are successfully working in the industry and are represented by these top talent agencies in Los Angeles.
However, that’s not to say that you shouldn’t always be in an acting class, honing your acting skills.
Bottom Line: If you’re new to the industry, then getting signed by a top tier acting agency in Los Angeles requires for many stars to align, pieces to fall together and a handout from the Universe.

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE HUNGER GAMES GIRL???

IN MY OPINION;
WILLIAM REYNOLDS;

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE HUNGER GAMES GIRL???

MOTHER > STARRING JENNIFER LAWRENCE >  currently has a not-terrible rating of 67% on Rotten Tomatoes, but many reviews have been savage, with critic Rex Reed writing in the New York Observer: "I hesitate to label it the ‘Worst movie of the year’ when ‘Worst movie of the century’ fits it even better." OVERALL IT HAS AN 'F' RATING
NOT TOO GOOD FOR A TOP DIRECTOR AND THE SECOND HIGHEST PAYING ACTRESS IN HOLLYWOOD..IS IT?

ENTERTAINERS > TRY QUALITY AND NOT QUANTITY:

IN MY OPINION;
WILLIAM REYNOLDS:

ENTERTAINERS > TRY QUALITY AND NOT QUANTITY:

You’re a busy person! You don’t have time to pour hours and hours into having an amazing social media presence across multiple platforms, and that’s okay! Instead of having a mediocre presence on FacebookTwitterInstagramTumblrLinkedInand Pinterest, it’s better to have a strong presence on one or two of these platforms. Choose the social network(s) that suit your business the best and encourage the most interaction from fans and clients. For example, if you’re a photographer, you might opt for Facebook and Instagram. But, comedians may have a better experience on Twitter. Regardless of what you do, it’s wise to use LinkedIn as a way to network and connect with past, present, and future clients.

DO YOU LOVE TO ACT, OR DO YOU LOVE ACTING?

IN MY OPINION:
WILLIAM REYNOLDS
 DO YOU LOVE TO ACT, OR DO YOU LOVE ACTING?
It can be romantic, poetic even, and a great statement of rebellion. Becoming an actor; it’s a shot against all odds. People love the mysterious, defiant ones, who stray from the march of the crowd and pursue their dreams. Hanging out at coffee shops… talking about Hollywood, your dream, what’s in your way… if only this or that happened... perhaps some short romantic entanglements with scene partners to “help the scene” (that’s the excuse, anyway, but it’s really just to escape loneliness for a moment). “Actors say I can’t get involved with anyone because it will interfere with my career; I’m a loner, my art is my true lover … I can’t commit to a relationship with anyone, because I’m committed to my career. Desire me. I am unavailable; hence it makes me more attractive. I love this craft - someday, you’ll see what I mean…”
 *Some people call themselves actors as an excuse to escape reality, to live in another world, rebel against family, upbringing, culture; an opportunity to “buy time” while they figure out what they really want. This is difficult for me to write, as I love actors and having been one myself; but as I talk and work with actors, I often see these patterns. WHICH ONE ARE YOU?? DO YOU KNOW? OR EVEN CARE, YOU'RE HAVING THE TIME OF YOUR LIFE.?

JUST LIKE THE REST OF US>>>

Ryan Seacrest as a kid
IN MY OPINION:
WILLIAM REYNOLDS:

JUST LIKE THE REST OF US>>>

RYAN SEACREST SHARED A ONE-BEDROOM

Before he hit the big leagues on American Idol, Ryan Seacrest was just like the rest of us: paying rent and living with a roommate. But the situation was especially tight for the TV host: Said apartment was a one bedroom, and he shared it with "another dude." We can imagine his digs today are a bit more spacious.

GET THE FACTS,,,DON'T' WASTE YOUR TIME AND YOUR CAREER>>>

IN MY OPINION;
WILLIAM REYNOLDS;
GET THE FACTS,,,DON'T' WASTE YOUR TIME AND YOUR CAREER>>>

Paul Barry, L.A.-based acting teacher AND writer Actors should be learning harsh truths at least a few times a week. If they don’t, their progress is going to be too slow to truly capitalize on opportunities before many of their most marketable years have passed them by. Make certain that you are prepared.
Understanding that hard work does not always equal success though is the harshest of all truths. We all know a great older actor that has worked consistently his or her whole career on bits and pieces, and yet cannot seem to break through to the next level. Conversely, some lazy young actors can simply become surprisingly lucky, which seems patently unfair to everyone else. The simple matter is that life does not promise—or even owe you—fairness. Hard work does not always equal success, but it does always equal growth.
Your journey is your journey. At times breathtakingly simple, and at times phenomenally challenging. Learn to enjoy the entire roller coaster ride, and not just the peaks. When you do, you’ll find that the “harsh” realities are every bit as enlivening as the “lucky” breaks.
DON'T GET MAD AT THE AGENT THAT TOLD YOU THE TRUTH, GET MAD AT THE ONE THAT LIED TO YOU.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS ARE LASTING IMPRESSIONS...>>>

IN MY OPINION;
WILLIAM REYNOLDS:

FIRST IMPRESSIONS ARE LASTING IMPRESSIONS...>>>
OK,SO YOU FINALLY GOT AN INTERVIEW/AUDITION WITH  AN AGENT...A REAL AGENT AND NOT SOME MODELING SCHOOL..THEY ARE 'NOT' AGENTS.
 Go for the gold in your personal presentation! It’s not the time for sloppy jeans, sweats, or hipster thrift shop clothes  Dress with confidence like a movie star so that's how they remember you. (Ladies, wear make-up.) I recently met an actress, not a big resume, had to show me her headshot on her phone. It wasn't too bad but agents want to see the hard copy. She read the script I gave her and surprising so, did well. Nice personality (she talked a little too much about this)  and was pplesant, but she arrived for an interview with no make-up and wearing ripped up jeans that were way too short. While they may be popular and many times expensive, NOT GOOD>  If I were a casting director, I would never call her again! She would have lost dozens of potential jobs from following following bad advice. So, look fabulous! You are there to impress and show your future agent how you would look if they submitted you for a major role. Be camera-ready! Your audition/interview starts when you walk in the door, like it or not. We all do the same thing every day in our own lives. Like a Mercedes is more impressive than a 4 yr old pickup. LIKE IT OR NOT. WE ALL MAKE INSTANT DECISIONS FROM FIRST IMPRESSIONS.

KEEP YOUR BLANKETY BLANK HEADSHOTS UP TO DATE:

IN MY OPINION:
WILLIAM REYNOLDS:
KEEP YOUR BLANKETY BLANK HEADSHOTS UP TO DATE:

After getting a casting call from a Producer not too long ago. I discovered that many beginning actors may not know the best way to go about submitting themselves for roles in films, commercials, plays, etc. As an actor, one might assume that everyone with a passion for acting would stay up to date on proper etiquette in submitting headshots and resumes to prospective “employers”, but it seems that's a wrong assumption. So, I'm here to help.
The term "employers” is used loosely because acting gigs are not always paying gigs. Whether you are being paid for your acting abilities or not, you should always take every opportunity seriously and professionally.
Here is the biggest  DON'T DO when submitting for an acting role

#1 Don't send an outdated photo or picture that doesn't look like you.
When you submit a photo, it shouldn't be more than 1 to 2 years old, and we prefer 1.5 yrs.The more recent the photo, the better. Especially if you drastically change your looks by cutting or coloring your hair. If the only headshot you have is of your blonde hair and you've recently dyed it black, then maybe it's time for a new headshot! The casting department won't be too happy if you come in to an audition looking different than in your headshot. OUR CASTING DEPT is the one that gets the wrath of the Director or Producer.  Just ask those that handle the castings that CAN AND DO PAY A LOT OF MONEY. Adotopmally your resume

#2 Don't submit a picture of your picture.

If you are serious about your path as an actor, then you should always have a high quality photograph to send in for submission at any given time, no matter what device you are using. You should always keep the original photo saved on your computer in a special “Acting” file so you can easily locate it. It's a good idea to email the high-res photo to yourself as an attachment, and save or flag that email. It's also a wise idea to save that photo to your mobile device or even Google Drive. This way, you should always have access to your high-resolution headshot for sharing. Remember, be sure to save the first original photo as “LastName, FirstName Headshot.jpg” before emailing it to yourself or anyone else.

HERE ARE A FEW "IDIOMS" THAT FIT NEWBEES TO THIS INDUSTRY

IN MY OPINION:
WILLIAM REYNOLDS:

HERE ARE A FEW "IDIOMS" THAT FIT NEWBEES TO THIS INDUSTRY;
THAT I JUST CAME ACROSS;

Actions speak louder than words
People's intentions can be judged better by what they do than what they say.>>>  Add insult to injury..To further a loss with mockery or indignity; to worsen an unfavorable situation>>>.At the drop of a hat..Meaning: without any hesitation; instantly.>>>Back to the drawing board...When an attempt fails and it's time to start all over.>>>Ball is in your court.....It is up to you to make the next decision or step>>>>Barking up the wrong tree.....Looking in the wrong place. Accusing the wrong person>>> SO, DO SOME OF THESE SOUND A LITTLE TOO CLOSE TO HOME??>>>>JUST A LITTLE HUMOR.

ACTORS..INVEST IN YOUR CAREER:::

IN MY OPINION;
WILLIAM REYNOLDS;

ACTORS..INVEST IN YOUR CAREER:::

Now here’s the thing, when I say invest, I mean time. How much time are you willing to invest in improving yourself? Many actors leave Drama School and never take any classes or try to improve their chances of getting work. But not in the USA, actors are always seeking the edge, the advantage and the actors that I know that do that, they get cast, they work, but when they are not working, they are still learning, acting, writing or training."""Imagine the athlete who never trained between competitions. We would laugh at them, because they would be ludicrously out of shape. But actors never give it a second thought!""" WELL Here’s a few suggestion for ways that you can invest in your acting career, by applying these on a daily basis.>>>>>TAKE ACTING CLASSES.......STAY IN SHAPE......HANG OUT WITH YOUR PEERS (REAL ACTORS).......LOOK FOR OPPORTUNITIES......ACTUALLY GET OUT AND GO TO THE MOVIES, WATCH AND STUDY THEM...'maybe even eat a little popcorn'.

WHY ACTING IS BENEFICIAL FOR KIDS>>

IN MY OPINION:
WILLIAM REYNOLDS:
WHY ACTING IS BENEFICIAL FOR KIDS>>
1. It allows you to support your child’s dream. As a good parent, if your child finds something that truly makes him or her happy, you are blessed. I suspect you would do everything you could to make them happy. You would support them joining the Boy Scouts, tumbling, tennis, music, baseball, academics. Right? Acting is just another activity that they love doing. PLUS>>2. It builds confidence. I started because my whole family was in the industry. I was too shy to get up in front of her elementary school class and give a book report, so eventually asked my uncle (Academy Award Winner) to guide me along the correct path. I have met a ton of parents that simply get the wrong information, usually from relatives, about what to do.PLUS>>3. It gives your child something that makes them feel special. Everybody needs something that gives them that little boost in their presence and truthfully sometimes 'prestige.

PREPARING FOR YOUR AUDITION OR ROLE:

IN MY OPINION;
WILLIAM REYNOLDS:

PREPARING FOR YOUR AUDITION OR ROLE:

DRESS THE PART>>Wardrobe can be very helpful in taking on and taking off a character and
their emotional baggage. Even if you don't change from top to bottom, many times just changing
a shirt, or shoes can make a huge difference. Whatever emotions that can be overwhelming on
an audition or actual performance, can be altered. Something simple, before you ever begin, before you leave
your home, can make a huge difference.
Think about what changing clothes for any event in your life does to your attitude, you physically and
emotionally.

STAY FOCUSED:

IN MY OPINION:
WILLIAM REYNOLDS:

STAY FOCUSED:

You must stay focused on your strengths and not your weaknesses. If you really believe
you have something to offer the world of professional acting, then it's up to 'you' to let that
world know. There is a never-ending demand for new and talented actors, so it's just a
question of making sure the right people become aware of you. And it's probably not
going to happen overnight. It sometimes seems like it did when you get there where
you want to be. But upon reflecting, you realize that you did the same thing as all of
those successful ones that did the same thing.
IF YOU KEEP ON DOING WHAT YOU ALWAYS DID YOU WILL ALWAYS GET WHAT
WHAT YOU ALWAYS GOT>>>>SO DO IT CORRECTLY THIS TIME.

SOME ACTING JOBS PAY A TON OF MONEY,

IN MY OPINION:
WILLIAM REYNOLDS:

SOME ACTING JOBS PAY A TON OF MONEY,
BUT THERE ARE A TON OF SACRIFICES THAT
CAN GO WITH IT.

While there are approximately 1 billion jobs that are more difficult than being a struggling actor, there are few that seem as depressing and demoralizing. Not only are actors constantly forced to put on a smile and head out to auditions where they will face near-certain rejection, but they're also always being told exactly why they were rejected — because they're too old, too fat, too ugly, too brunette, etc. It's weird line of criticism to willingly put yourself in and, stranger still, the newest trend with actors out in L.A. is to pay a shit-ton of money to go to class where an instructor and your classmates will hone in your particularities for you. Think of it like a sorority rush where your fellow sorority sisters circle all of your worst parts with a marker, only in this case the goal is less humiliation and "improvement" and more about exploiting whatever it is that makes you stand out to other people.
In conclusion, just like every successful anything you have to be 'trained', 'good at what you do', be flexible', and have a think skin, AND NOT TO MENTION>>..DON'T LISTEN TO OTHER FAILURES THAT CAN'T WAIT TO GIVE YOU ADVICE.

WHY YOU JUST CAN'T RUN OUT AND JOIN THE SCREEN ACTORS GUILD

IN MY OPINION:
WILLIAM REYNOLDS;

WHY YOU JUST CAN'T RUN OUT AND JOIN THE SCREEN ACTORS GUILD>>>>SAG/AFTRA?????
WHY...YOU ARE NOT A MEMBER; READ ON>>> PLEASE.

Any struggling actors who have never had a significant role before are not members of the Screen Actors Guild. SAG was designed as a union to ensure that actors were paid fair wages for their work. Nearly every movie and television show has to operate within the guidelines of SAG, which means that they can only hire SAG actors or else they have to pay a hefty fine to cast someone outside the union. Naturally, studios will cast SAG members over nonmembers every time. So how do you become a member? Well, that's where things get completely absurd.
The rules of SAG state, "Performers are eligible to join Screen Actors Guild after working on a SAG film in a principal role." So just to clarify, no one will cast you unless you are already in the union, and you can't get into the union until you are cast. A director has to like you so much that he or she is willing to trust you with a primary role despite the fact that you have no previous experience in film and be willing to pay a fine just to have you in that role. Now remember before when I mentioned that there are hundreds of other people who look exactly like you auditioning? At least 50 of them will already have their SAG cards.
Then again the 'script' outlines the roles that are needed, the age, the look and the skill level...basically there is no 'one' particular look...EVER. Based on what we pointed out above, there has to be a way for new people (actors) to become SAG or there would not be very many members, you would have to wait until they all die off, right? Wrong. There are sometimes 'open calls' when the director couldn't find, (or afford) what they needed for a particular role. Next an 'upgrade'>>this happens when the director needs to add another 'speaking role" *(SAG) but want's it right now, and he/she is not going to stop filming, call his casting director and have auditions, they are going to 'pick' probably someone playing an extra to give it a shot.{ and this is where your real acting classes come into play } no notice what so ever>>>RIGHT NOW.  I COVER ALL OF THIS IN THE INSTRUCTIONAL CLASSES THAT WE HAVE....AND PAY FOR. Is the film company going to get that 'hefty fine' for doing this, you bet they are...but to the director it's cheaper that stopping filming and going and having auditions...GET YOURSELF PREPARED.

WE ARE NUMBER ONE""""NUMBER ONE IN FILM PRODUCTION;

IN MY OPINION:
WILLIAM REYNOLDS:

WE ARE NUMBER ONE""""NUMBER ONE IN FILM PRODUCTION;

Georgia is now the No. 1 filming location in the world, according to FilmL.A., and the industry has a giant impact on the state's economy.
Gov. Nathan Deal announced film and television productions generated $9.5 billion in economic impact in fiscal 2017. This includes $2.7 billion in direct spending.
In the past year, 320 film and television productions shot in the state, including several Marvel movies, Netflix's "Stranger Things" and AMC's "The Walking Dead."
“Georgia’s growth in the film industry — from $67.7 million in direct spending in FY 2007 to $2.7 billion in FY 2017 — is unprecedented, not only in production spend, but also in the amount of investment that has been made in infrastructure,” said Lee Thomas, deputy commissioner for the Georgia Department of Economic Development's Film, Music and Digital Entertainment Office, in a statement. “The unwavering commitment to this industry by Gov. Deal and the Georgia legislature has ensured Georgia’s place as a top destination for film and television.” Sound stage complexes like Pinewood Atlanta Studios, EUE/Screen Gems Studios, Atlanta Metro Studios, Tyler Perry Studios and Blackhall Studios make it possible for so many productions to film here at once. Several other complexes were proposed within the last year, including Three Ring Studios in Covington, CineDome Studios in Chattahoochee Hills and Cinema South Studios in Fayetteville, Ga.

ACTING IS A GREAT JOB; BUT!

IN MY OPINION;
WILLIAM REYNOLDS:

ACTING IS A GREAT JOB; BUT!
Being an actor is amazing. You get to “play” for a living, embrace your creativity, and sometimes, if you’re lucky, earn a very good living at it..But there are also so incredible setbacks and sacrifices that an actor makes as they pursue the Silver Screen, the Small Screen,.
BUT>>IT'S PRETTY CERTAIN THAT:
10: No social life>>>> 9.Leaving town>>>8. No job security>>>7 Life and Limb (paper cuts from all of those heashot/resumes)>>>6. Time, (and space continum)
5. Stability>>>4. Health (no insurance)>>> 3. Birthdays (can't get off)>>>2. Tattoos, ear piercings etc.>>>and number one>>>Sleep (or lack thereof)
SO IS IT WORTH IT....DAMN STRAIGHT IT IS!!!

WHY SHOULD SOME ACTORS JUST QUIT:

IN MY OPINION:
WILLIAM REYNOLDS:

WHY SHOULD SOME ACTORS JUST QUIT:

I wanna talk about what doesn’t get talked about>>: quitting acting!!  People in the industry, even coaches and teachers, won’t go there.
Because it’s scary. It’s personal. And because industry-related businesses rely on actors being actors, even if it’s time for them to move on. I’m not here to convince you to quit acting; if you have zero doubts about your career and how it affects the rest of your life, stop reading now.
But if you’ve ever struggled, doubted, second-guessed, or questioned your career as an actor, then let’s take a minute to get real. Every actor I’ve ever spoken with one-on-one admits that at some point she’s questioned his/her career choice. And I think that’s a good thing. You’re an actor because you’re the question-asking type. You didn’t go for a traditional job. You had a vision, you worked your ass off to chase it, and you’re still here. That’s to be commended.  What’s not to be commended is when you keep chasing at the expense of what’s best for you. And guess what? If don’t want to act anymore? It doesn’t mean that you’re a failure or a sell-out. What no one tells you when you’re starting out: your dreams can change. but sometimes your priorities change., or it's just not fun anymore..WHATEVER!!
And here is one thing that never stops to amaze me...REGARDLESS OF WHOMEVER YOUR AGENT IS, BIG OR SMALL..SOME WANT TO BLAME THE AGENT...IT COULD NOT POSSIBLY BE THEIR OWN FAULT. IT HAS TO BE SOMEONE ELSE'S.

ANOTHER ACTOR THAT ALMOST QUIT, AND BOY IS HE GLAD HE DIDN'T.

IN MY OPINION:
WILLIAM REYNOLDS;

ANOTHER ACTOR THAT ALMOST QUIT,
AND BOY IS HE GLAD HE DIDN'T.

When Carrey was 14 years old, his father lost his job, and his family hit rough times. They moved into a VW van on a relative’s lawn, and the young aspiring comedian—who was so dedicated to his craft that he mailed his resume to The Carroll Burnett Show just a few years earlier, at age 10—took an eight-hours-per-day factory job after school to help make ends meet.>>>At age 15, Carrey performed his comedy routine onstage for the first time—in a suit his mom made him—and totally bombed, but he was undeterred. The next year, at 16, he quit school to focus on comedy full time. He moved to LA shortly after, where he would park on Mulholland Drive every night and visualize his success. One of these nights he wrote himself a check for $10,000,000 for “Acting Services Rendered,” which he dated for Thanksgiving 1995. Just before that date, he hit his payday with Dumb and Dumber. He put the deteriorated check, which he’d kept in his wallet the whole time, in his father’s casket. He said he even thought about changing his name to 'KACHING'.
