This idea was first called the ‘System’ by Konstantin Stanislavsky, and later, as further developed by Lee Strasberg (at the Group Theatre, the Actors Studio and then at the Institute). These last two blogs are a brief history of the, well almost standard for all great actors. At the very least study from those that have studied these techniques and methods. You will be much better for it. And directors will know almost immediately that you' are real, and not a 'dreamer'.
