Get noticed in 2016
If you teach acting on any level and it is related to production and casting plays, or movies/tv then you know that when the cast list goes up there’s bound to be elation, disappointment, anger, and jealously, as well as many other emotions, including Aristotle’s cathartic duo of pity and fear.
If you’re involved as a teacher/director in a theatre or acting program, you may need to handle questions about casting. That is if you elect to do so. If your focus is on mentoring in any fashion, when an actor comes in to talk to you about casting, you’ll want to be frank, honest, professional, kind, and instructive regarding what I call The Actor’s Dilemma.
When a young actor goes on an audition most times they will 'not' get the part they actually wanted. It's probably a lesser role. And there is usually more than one reason. You didn't have the desired look, maybe you simply couldn't handle the top spot etc. But, rest assured 'YOU ARE THERE' AND YOU ARE WORKING'.
While you may be a little disappointed you should also be happy. Maybe even super happy. Many great acting careers were spawned by a small role in a film. But you GOT NOTICED.
Good luck in 2016
